UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES

of adding Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity

It will require honesty to determine whether Ordinance 1856 will have unintended negative consequences.

It is now up to city voters to keep ALL residents in mind, to acknowledge that these results are foreseeable,

and to VOTE NO to Ord 1856.

· Is it your intent that funding should be cut off to the Salvation Army, the Gospel Mission and other ministries who do not fit the narrow description of the religious exemption?

· Is it your intent to force parochial schools to hire trans-gendered individuals or cross-dressers against the sincerely held religious beliefs of the church and those of the member families?

· Is it your intent that the police and the media, when looking for a sexual predator, would have to announce that they are looking for a woman when the person, in fact, had the birth sex of a man and perhaps still has male genitalia?

· Is it your intent to jeopardize the public safety that will result from the ensuing gender confusion?

· Is it your intent to force responsible citizens with moral convictions to employ people when they feel it is wrong to do so?

· Is it your intent to coerce businessmen to hire those who do not present themselves in a way befitting to their business or to bear the cost and burden of hiring what they feel to be an unsuitable employee?

· Is it your intent that the city could possibly be required to remodel and restructure the city’s public accommodations at taxpayer expense?

· Is it your intent to burden taxpayers with the expense of unlimited lawsuits which will be needed to determine which set of “rights” will be denied?

· Is it your intent that sex offenders would have more rights than law-abiding citizens?

· Is it your intent that the Kalamazoo City Commission assume the funding of and the managerial tasks associated with the ministries currently handled by the Gospel Mission?

·  Is it your intent that in these incredibly precarious economic times, that further obstacles to good business practices, and onerous, unnecessary restrictions be placed on the businesses which currently call Kalamazoo home?

· Is it your intent that men who want to dress like ladies be employed in schools, churches and youth pro- grams?

·  Is it your intent that your City Attorney will be forced to decide between which two legally-protected groups as to which he will have to prosecute, and which he will have to deny their legal rights?

· Is it your intent to insult the citizens who worked and sacrificed so much to achieve Civil Rights for inborn traits such as skin color, by elevating to that same status a group of people who by their own behavior do change that classification at will?

· Is it your intent to fly in the face of well-researched, documentable science proving conclusively to the contrary, and claim, in the grand tradition of the flat-earth society, that there is some unknown, undocumented and completely disproven gene for homosexuality?

· Is it your intent to burden the hard-working tax payers of the City of Kalamazoo with ever-higher taxes to pay for facilities, new building accommodations and the attendant litigation costs?
